The giant vampire bat is a variety of the desmodontinae subfamily of bats and id quite distinct from its siblings. It around 30% larger than the average common vampire bat with a wingspan that rivals that of some birds of prey. The vampire is actually on different to the common vampire bat due to genetic mutation, they both share a common ancestor as both species engage in sanguivorous habits, it is likely they only evolved once, as did all vampire bats.

BehaviourEdit

Vampire bats live in colonies that can number in the hundreds in roosting sites. The basic social structure of roosting bats revolved around an alpha male bat and hundreds of females. Some interested watchers note 'nomad males' which enter the lodgings and go within a short period of time, spreading their seed as they do.

Some giant vampire bats will take in homeless young bats and nurture them as do the common vampire bats.
