History
Edit
main article: Salt Clan
Culture
Edit
Petroleum resembles a medieval manor, with numerous renters sending their lords; the Salt Clan a share of their wealth in exchange for the right to live on and use the land, as well as protection. The people of Petroleum are honest, industrious, and suspicious. Furthermore if a family begins to do well, their neighbors suspect a play to join the Salt Clan leading to intense politics inside and outside the clan. This air of paranoia and toil leads to a slightly oppressive atmosphere, which is why the people of Petroleum favor long weekends in Globe Town, Penwell, or even Big Spring when the chance arises.
Economy
Edit
Petroleum is the largest community in the Midessa Compact and the most developed to boot. Numerous family farms and ranches dot the land, paying their rent to the Salt Clan from their surplus. The Clan operates farms and ranches of their own as well, but have other industries; the most famous of which is reloading spent brass. Finally, Petroleum is the final destination for all the scrap and material harvested from Notrees and Wink Sink, which fuels a number of industries.
Government
Edit

Added by OvaltinePatrolPetroleum is governed at all levels by the Salt Clan, with their Roughneck militia serving as the community's police force. The people of Petroleum are allowed to vote on their representative to the Yucca Council as per the rules set forth by the Midessa Compact, but no non-Salt Clan candidate has ever run.
Layout
Edit
Petroleum is a large community centered around the Petroleum Building in the ruins of downtown Midland and radiating for block after block away from it. Armory lies less than 11 miles slightly southeast of the Petroleum Building.
